    ?? potential lease, need advice

Hey guys, I have a good shot on a lease near McLean tx, it is in both clay and wheeler counties. Ive never been in that area and don't know what to look for. Im currently in Foard co., so unsure of terrain and deer numbers. Any advice appreciated. Wondering if have mule deer in area. My buddy says its loaded w turkey and owner says it has some big deer. Anyone hunt in that area, please chime in. Thanks.

Not sure about the McLean area, but Clay and Wheeler counties are a long ways apart.

        Sorry, meant Gray co.
Oh I love Foard co., good deer, great little town nearby. We just have a small place. This other place is real big, will only have 4 hunters. Never been leased before. Hopefully it will hold some muleys, we dont have any in Foard, landowner doesn't recall ever seeing any there. I may try to keep both places, may not be possible but idk.

I know I would prefer more land per hunter.

My buddy is hunting out there this weekend. Hopeful we get a good report. If looks good, going to iron out the details on leasing for next year

Wheeler county is probably the best in the panhandle for WT numbers. Gray produces some great mulies. Depending on where its at exactly, you could have some of the best hunting in the state when the numbers come back.

That sounds encouraging. Drought knock the numbers down?

Dont think it hurt the area between shamrock and canadian quite as bad as further south, but yes. The place i work is full of hunters and everyone feels the numbers are down throughout the panhandle.

The area can be very good, both in size and numbers. Terrain can be farms, sand hills or rough canyons. Usually water plays a big part in that area. Keep this near the top, there are several guys on here from the area.
