All the time I get to drool over all of ya'll guys live hunts... so I have been looking forward to doing one of my own!
One of the best kept secrets in Texas Public Hunting is the Angelo State University (ASU) Wildlife Management Hunts. It is a non point system public drawn annual hunt in San Angelo, TX. The MIR ranch ( Research Ranch ) borders the state park and is a bit over 6000 acres. I had the opportunity to guide and help manage the program while I was there in school. The ranch has yielded deer in the 190's and maintains a buck: doe ration of 1:1.5 ( Excellent rattling scenario ) The program offer two trophy hunt weekends and a management hunt weekend. I put in for the management hunt because it's less than half the price of the trophy hunt. I was selected as an alternate so in September I forgot about the hunt completely. October rolled around and the professor that manages the program called and asked if I wanted I could get on the opening trophy hunt... I couldn't resist.
So I am paying: $1500
I receive a trophy buck (120"+)
2- does or spike
1 - turkey
Any predators I can find
FULLY GUIDED
I have to find my own accommodation.
That's a sweet deal considering the cost of leases and feed etc.
I am very excited for this, even though I'm paying for it...
Breaking out a brand new browning .243 X bolt for this hunt...
I hunt Tomorrow ( Thursday Evening to Sunday Evening)
I will keep you all posted. Thank you all for taking the time to read this. I promise it will be pic heavy!
God bless, stay warm, and wish me luck!!!
