    Polar Vortex?

Is the term "Polar Vortex" something recently coined to describe a cold front?

I don't know but man this cold front zapped us here in Eastern NM this morning! Wind chill currently sitting at 4 degrees with actual temp at 17. Brrrrrrr!

I thought it was a reference to any action in my bedroom, when I forget to do my honey do's.

But, yea I think its something weather related.

I think so. They started naming the winter storms I believe to push the global warming BS. They used to just be called blue northers!!!

It is much stronger than a polar express cold front. But, cold is cold, and gets the deer up moving.

A polar vortex is a persistent, large-scale cyclone that circles either of the planet's geographical poles. On Earth, the base of the polar vortices are located in the middle and upper troposphere and extend into the stratosphere. They surround the polar highs and lie in the wake of the polar front. These cold-core low-pressure areas strengthen in the winter and weaken in the summer due to their dependence upon the temperature differential between the equator and the poles.[1] They usually span less than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) in diameter within which the air circulates in a counter-clockwise fashion in the Northern Hemisphere, and in a clockwise fashion in the Southern Hemisphere. As with other cyclones, their rotation is caused by the Coriolis effect.

It's what we used to call a "cold spell". But that was back before we were supposed to be terrified about how ebbs and flows in the weather patterns were going to KILL US ALL!!!!

The "polar vortex" is real, it starred in a 2004 Al Gore movie.

It'll freeze a helicopter in flight.

                      Wow!
Does the water in the toilet rotate backwards during a vortex?

It's frozen. How can it rotate?

Grandpa called it a cold snap, all that got killed was rabbits. Good thing was there was no weather channel.
Most of the old folk could "feel" it coming anyway.

Guess it would have to be the out house until spring.
Medically, this vortex has my acid reflux and left hip all pretty flared up.
