Need some opinions on a situation I am in.
I dropped off my best whitetail bow kill last year on 10/25/2013. I have used this Taxidermist before and he is a very nice fellow. He had done another shoulder mount and a euro mount for me in previous years.
Taxi said wait time was 6-12 months, which seemed reasonable. I called the taxidermist about 10-11 months in to get an update....Basically told me that he had some re-occurring health issues and was behind and he was also having issues with the tannery. No work had been started on my mount. I did pay in full up front, which I probably shouldn't have, but I know the guy is trustworthy and was willing to risk it for goodwill.
I called today to get an update and his phone went straight to voicemail. I went by his shop and it was locked up and looked like no one had been there in a while. I peered through the window and saw some mounts that were in progress (which was semi-promising).
I went by the local processor who has joint customers with the taxidermist. The processor told me the taxidermist has had some very serious health issues and it is unknown if he will ever be able to return to work or not. He was currently in a rehabilitation home.
I know this fellow is in a bad situation, and taxidermy aside, I hope he can take the time off needed to heal and recuperate. However, I am doubtful that he will be able to fulfill my order and finish my mount. I can deal with the fact that I am probably out my money, unless the taxidermist has a miraculous turnaround. --- At a minimum, I really just want my antlers back and hopefully the hide too....
This guy was a one man show in a west Texas town south of Abilene and I have no clue where to start looking/who to start asking to get my horns back....
Has anyone been in this situation? Is there any recourse I have to get my antlers back?
