    Deer Decoy---Live hunt

Since we are seeing early rut chasing here in Palo Pinto Co, my hunting buddy and I are setting up a buck/doe decoy combo under some power lines.

There can be some good deer movement in this area so we are hoping this will pull in some deer and create some action.

Both decoys or sprayed down with de-scent spray and some doe in heat gel added to the tail on the doe decoy.

    Let see what happens!!!

Pstures and lines are THE best setups for decoys. I have been using decoys in pastures for years now and they have become a standard part of my routine. What is awesome is they will stop any deer in its tracks (just long enough to get a shot) when otherwise the deer (especially bucks) would just have kept running or walking across. I value them more than the feeders. Havent had a buck charge or molest a decoy yet but its just a matter of time. Had a decoy charged overnight once....forgot to take it down one evening and came back the next morning to find legs, body, head and antlers scattered.

    Good luck.

I have some sheds we could strap to one of the kids heads for a live decoy

Anybody used these tactics in East Texas? Anything I can do to draw the deer out into the open would be great!

I think the best used tatics there i heard to be a spot light and a truck with a full tank of gas.

I am shocked, SHOCKED I SAY, to hear that people use spotlights in east Texas. Now if you'll excuse me I need to go find some cr123 batteries, I seem to have run all mine down somehow.

Still patiently waiting but it gets my heart rate up every once in awhile because I see those decoys standing there looking so real!

Haha, I know what you mean! When I'm hunting and it's early morning it doesn't matter how many days in a row I've hunted that stand, as the light starts to get better I look at something, and I KNOW it's a bush, but I squint real hard, or look out the corner of my eye for movement, just to be sure. Haha

I hunt East Texas and decoys are great! I use a feeding doe and a standing doe. I place estrus scent nearby during the rut. I've had bucks approach them. I had a bobcat stalk them to within 10' before I shot him. Mostly they have worked as a confidence decoy. A buck or doe will see them and come out in the open more relaxed. They have always given me time to look at deer. The live deer always step out and at least stop and look at them
