Started my 12 year old pretty early. Let him go to the blind when he was three, but not when I was hunting. He was hunting. Brought his Red Rider and everything. First time, I decided to take him up in an elevated box blind about 50 yards from a feeder. We showed up late, after the feeder had thrown. Already had does eating. They didn't mind us he tromped up the metal steps to the blind. They didn't mind his fidgeting in the blind and getting on and off his chair. They also didn't mind when he asked out loud if he could shoot them and then shot them all with his BB gun (Air only. No BBs). It was a great experience for both of us and helped cultivate his love of hunting.

Of course, once they start going you almost have to sneak away if you want to do any hunting for yourself, like bowhunting out of a tree stand.

Started taking mine when he was 4. First year we watched, next year we killed pigs. This year I shot a deer and with my bow no less. He loves it all the way to skinning them. Only problem is he thinks we should shoot everything we see lol.

Been there. I remember one time being thankful an 8 point cull we needed to take walked out right at the end of the hunt. I had been explaining to a 6 year old him for 2 hours why we don't shoot young bucks. They don't quite get it

You got that in there before I could spell check my self. Mine actually had tears when I informed him we would not be shooting them. He's really having a hard time now that I started taking his sister's.

                  That's awesome bud!

Had my 6 yr old hunt with me tonight.
Blanket, hand Warmers, and iPad. That will do the trick. I let him rattle and a buck come in ready to fight. He was fired up about that. Ha

Take the kids hunting. Our family time is so much better when we all get together and have a blast at the deer lease.
                      Great job dad.

Since we're hijacking the thread mine loves to go!! First doe we shot hunting together in Baird he was mad she was too big to put on his power wheels 4 wheeler. Last year we had a buncha deer at the feeder in Menard and the knucklehead stuck his head out the window of the blind and cock a doodle dood at em like a rooster he said! We did shoot a cocoon that trip as he called it! Fun times!!!Click image for larger version
