    Ecoboost or 5.0

I know the search button is probably my friend.

After much consideration between the F150 and the Tundra I am going with the Ford, I drove both, one after another, and for me Ford is the best way to go.

Now, I cant decided between the ecoboost or the 5.0 V8.

Everything taken into consideration, which one do you prefer, fuel economy is the least important to me, I wouldn't drive a truck if it was.

I am looking at 2 different 2012 models, one with ecoboost the other with V8. Both are 4x4, both crew cabs, mileage is almost the same as well.

Someone told me the V6 wont hold up to regular towing, but would be fine for towing the max a couple times of year, but I dont want to limit myself on what I can tow.

    TIA

5.0 because of the increased pulling ability and natural aspiration

The 5.0 MPG's arent bad either

I have a 2013 5.0 F150 with the 6 speed auto tranny, 4x4, traction control with the trailer package. Runs 18 - 19 mpg at 75 - 80 mph (West of Kerrville it goes to 80 mph on I-10 boys ) In the city, I'm averaging 17 - 18.6mph running in bumper to bumper madness.

      If I run 65mph, she gets 21 - 22 mpg.

With a 1700lb load (flats boat \ gear and full of fuel 20 gallon tank), at 75mph, she gets 14 - 15 mph (no head wind). I've rolled along talking BS with a fishing buddy, looked down at the speedometer and realized I was pulling the boat at 90mph LOL! So loads at the 2000lb or less mark, you will pull and not really notice you have a load.

She has a lot of torque and acceleration and when you get on it, she will flat out get there quickly.

Ecoboost. It's almost like driving a sports car.

My son an I own one of each, the 5.0 is fine and gets 18-20 mpg. The Eco 4x4 gets about 17.5 and has tons of power and snap. Mine would get better mileage if I would keep my foot out of it. It tows great for a 1/2 ton

I have the Ecoboost, 2012, 4 x4 SC and it is a good truck and pulled my 7000 lb Travel Trailer with no issues at all. Gas mileage and Off the line Power will keep me from buying another one. Not bashing the truck, I will drive it for 3 more years at least. Just can't pay extra for a truck(eco) and not feel like it is worth it. I have 60k on mine. JMO

I have the same truck. Just a 2014. Exactly what he said. It's peppy. And you aren't gonna get a good sound with the v6 if you end up putting exhaust on it. I like my 5.0 quiet for now though. Nice at the lease.

If you are going to drive it past 100k miles 5.0. If you trade often, I would try the ECO.

If the trucks are otherwise comparable, the ecoboost has higher tow ratings.

This sounds a lot like mine. I love my 13 5.0 computer is saying 17.6 right now. Its a beast in the mud so far.

I agree, it's absolutely silent. A few of us went offshore chasing tuna, boat running twin diesels for 3 days, never shutting down so that sound was burned into the ear drums. We got back to PortA and rounded up our trucks to load and head home....got into my truck, fired it up and started backing up.....couldn't hear the darn engine and or exhaust. Kind of freaked me out for a moment....felt like I was running a battery powered truck LOL! My ears finally calmed down from the marine diesel exposure a few hours later.

Very good feature if you run Senderos to stand. Stealthy in a way, a main reason to keep the exhaust toned down.

Yep I think the sound of the tires running over grass and rocks or mud is actually louder than the truck itself.

Agree. That 5.0 has a proven track record with Ford. It's a pretty wide block and the engineering put into this engine, back in the 60s, folks would have killed for this engine in a Stang!

The 5.0 during that era never cracked the 400hp mark...without some serious serious mods. We are spoiled today!

The ecoboost is the towing engine out of the two. I ordered mine in march and I wanted the max tow option so I could get the bigger mirrors. You can't get the 5.0 engine with the max tow option, the 5.0 will do whatever you need no question but the EB is the best towing engine due to the low end torque (420 ibs @ 2500 RPM). It doesn't shift down as much as the 5.0 and hunt for gears when pulling a heavy load as much. The MPG's are about the same on both engines.
