For that price, I might be willing to give Bushmaster a try.

They were the bees knees in ar's many years ago, but got bought out by Remington. The original smiths and workers that made bushmaster what they were at one time, are now known as wyndham weaponry, and make fantastic guns at decent prices.

most say no because of the carbon lower. be perfect for a beater truck gun

those carbon lites feel like your holding a BB gun. Have heard mixed review about them, but for that price if you dont like it you can probably get more then you bought it for. Especially because it comes with a magpul clip

Just know they are built as cheap as possible. Polymer lower etc.

Note that the Carbon 15 is Bushmaster's ultra lightweight design with a polymer lower receiver.

There's nothing wrong with a polymer receiver, in fact I think they are great if you are just trying to keep your rifle's overall weight to an absolute minimum, but the conservative part of me says that a Carbon 15 isn't necessarily the best option for a first AR. That said, if you can get it for a net cost of $350 or so, why not?
