I had a wonderful trip at the deer lease. It was a blast watching the young bucks starting to chase a little bit. I think we are about a week away from the rut really kicking off. I started off my trip blackbuck hunting on Friday evening. I sat in a community blind on the southeast part of the ranch. It is a box blind that my co lease manager and I set up and has a wench feeder. We had asked the hunters if they had any extra chairs to put a couple in the blind. Knowing that we've had some hunters sit in the blind, I had assumed that there was a chair in there. Well I assumed wrong. Got to the blind and there was no chair. After kneeling for two hours, I decided to sit outside the blind on the ground and lean my back against the blind. That was much more comfortable. I saw a decent blackbuck with 4 curls but decided to pass on him because I've seen better on the ranch. Then I had a about 10 blackbuck doe come out along with 5 whitetail doe. The whitetail decided to give me a close encounter.
Saturday and Sunday, I saw a lot of deer. Lots of young bucks starting to chase a little bit. A passed on a few nice bucks that were just a little too young or not quite big enough.

I did manage to get one of the cull bucks we named "unibrow". He was easy to recognize because he was missing his left brow tine. He also had a white horizontal line going across his forehead.

I can't wait to go back next week to see if the big boys will get on their feet.
