Where to go Surf Fishing Near Houston

The wife and I are new to Houston and we went to Galveston last weekend. I have never really been surf fishing but the wife really wants to go now... so any suggestions on beaches or places to go, maybe on a working man's budget.

    - Thanks
    Allen

What kind of equipment do you have/what do you want to try and catch?

I always liked the beach between the town of Surfside Beach and SLP, or down to Sargent, but I was mostly fishing for trout in the summer. I believe they are getting a little thin this time of year, but reds and sharks are good. Just need some serious equipment to get out to them, 100-300 yards out.

This and if you have a 4x4 you can head east down the beach after the road ends and get away from the crowds. Just keep an eye out there used to be a nude beach down there and I was told don't go there on mondays for sure because thats when the hair saloons are closed.

Any pass. Rollover, north jetty, SLP... Rollover and San Luis will be super crowded with flounder-run people (too early to catch the big flounder tho) so I'd hit the north jetty as far out as I could get. Redfish and sheeps head can be caught towards the end and near the boat cut now. If you can't make it to the end, or if it's too crowded, fish around any irregularity in the jetty on the downstream side (preferably on an outgoing tide) with a lemon rig or popping cork. Everything is close to the rocks, so don't cast out too far.

The Galveston South jetties, north side of the island where the Seawall ends. Beyond Stewart Beach to the north - where Seawall Blvd ends and meets the Inlet and Houston Ship channel. Fish the surf side anywhere from 10 yards off the sand out beyond the 3rd set of breakers. A key area to focus is the 2nd bar, approximately 20 - 50 yards off the sand, right in the pocket out from the jetty rocks.

The other places have been mentioned.

61st Street Fishing Pier, fish in that same first 20 - 30 yards zone near the sand.

Is that a surf pic of you or just a random avatar. I only ask because I lived in Gtown for 6 years and take a bunch of surf trips to Tx coast and down to Mexico. The wave looks like a nice north wind knee high hopper!!!

That is me SOUL ARCHING my EZERA 9'6" nose rider. Velzy 9.5 pivot fin slotted all the way up in the box. Packery Channel south jetty - 2nd sandbar in the pocket at low tide. The sandbar was so shallow, I dragged fin through sand if I settled my tail down in the flat on trim.

                          SHAKA!

                            STOKED! LOL!

It was an excellent longboard day. I've had so many through the years now, been surfing since 1972. Still have a 5'8" MTB thruster from 1983 that is in excellent condition. My years during my 20s shred stick. I'm too heavy now to ride her but she's fun behind a boat.

Have this 9'6" Ezera and an 8'6" HOSANNA - thruster noserider with glassed fixed fins. The 8'6 comes out on head to overhead days - jumping off the jetty rocks to cheat the outside.
