    Coffee Grounds On Horns

Finished simmering a elk head last night for a friend, and portions of the bases were submerged, therefore making them a little white.

I have heard of putting coffee grounds on the horns to darken them back up but I wasn't sure if they needed to be fresh/hot grounds, or if they could be cold.

    Any input?

A creative application of this works pretty well. Even know a few to use a blend of Kiwi boot wax.

Put a little stain on a rag and wipe it on. Start off light then wipe another coat on. They will get darker with every cycle. Repeat till desired color is achieved.

Another thing I used on grout job I did patching a defect in a cabinet top---very strong tea--wipe it on, let it set, wipe it off. Repeat until satisfied with color match.

Any type of wood stain works. As stated keep adding coats of stain until your desired color is achieved

potassium permanganate and some steel wool to add the highlights.
