As most of you know, started my career over in late August doing land development sales. It's great but one down side is working weekends. So, my TBH son and his GF did the usual, invited me to go to his lease for Thanksgiving and get some hunting in. I asked off for a few days and being new felt fortunate my manager ok'd it! I was pumped......
We have done this the past 4 years, I have not even taken a deer during that time. I could have, but just enjoyed getting out with family and enjoying the serenity of the hunt.
One of his lease members, who has NOT hunted in 3 years, showed up last weekend and raised hell about letting ANY family members hunt as my son's GF was with him. My son has maintained this guy's feeder (at my son's cost for the corn) and kept his stand in good shape. To top it off, he even told my TBH son he could only hunt ONE spot, my son has 3 bowstands with feeders! I have seen my boy haul 50 sacks of corn and keep ALL the feeders full mostly at HIS expense and this is the way he was treated. My grown man/child told me it was all he could do to keep from putting a good old can of "whup a.ss" on this jerk as his GF was obviously upset.
So, I told him don't worry about it! I paid for leases for all my son's and dad for years and was fortunate enough to hunt with guys who did not care. They also brought their immediate family and it was always just a good time. If a "non-paid" family member shot a deer, it came off the paid lease members allowance. I understand not being able to fork out the cash right now, it's only fair...but there are ways to handle things and this guy did not do it the right way.
Proud of my TBH son, 6'6" & 290, I would not have had the B...s at any age to act the way this jerk did. Just a vent, but there's always next year I guess. Hoping I'll sell enough that my boy and I can get our own lease...together again!
