Logging crews started at my lease today

Well I got a phone call that the loggers moved in on our lease today, more specifically, they are headed to my spot and should be there in week. They weren't supposed to start till mid January, but I guess that changed. There are several small tracts they are going to cut and one of them happens to be right where my area is. I've hunted on the lease as a guest with my friends for a while now but this is my first year as a paying member on the place and I can tell you I have a lot of time and money invested in that stand location. I know the location will be better once the underbrush starts growing back but I can tell you I am sick and depressed that I couldn't finish out my season at this spot before they cut it. I guess there may be bright side to this in a couple years but right now it just sucks!!!! Headed up this in a few days to try to make a hunt and grab my cameras.

Okay I'm done complaining. Good luck and God Bless!!!!

The good news is it will be better when the young growth starts showing up. Even better would be a fire. Won't do much for this year though.

We have had that multiple times over the years in Trinity County. It really doesn't seem to bother the deer for long.

Don't give up. The deer are more used to it than you think.

I hunted Polk county and they clear cut my section 2 weeks before bow season, 2010. I was furious!! Until I saw the deer movement. Set up on the tree lines and look for new trails. I shot my best buck 50 yards from the feeder sitting on a 5 gallon bucket on a trail.

Had it happen to us on opening day of gun season. When they got through the only trees left were a few around our camp and trees that had stands on them.

Be gald if they only cut small sections.

The risk of being on logging property. The deer are resilient to this I'm sure.

The deer will probably be watching them cut.

They been login on our place for 3 years now. The deer will still be there. I moved my feeder from a fresh clear cut to inside the wood line and had deer coming to it in a couple of days. Killed my first bow buck there.

I know the deer are used to it but I was just getting the area patterned and figuring out where a couple really good ones are staying. I think its more of a mental devastation than anything really but it still sucks. I got a couple cheap ladder stands I'm going to go throw up on what I think are some strategic trees alongs some creeks bottoms and pinch points in hopes that they leave the trees standing. I know its a long shot but I'm gonna try it anyways. One good thing is i have 6 trees inside of my feeder pen and I wouldn't think that they would try to remove them. Heck who knows they may just run right over my panels and cut the trees down anyways.

Sorry for you, but that's pretty much sop for timber companies... Saddest I've ever been was when they started cutting along Pine Island Bayou just South of the big city of Thicket, Texas... That was the heart of The Big Thicket, and before they were done, they had clear cut and deadened everything. They plowed up in big wind rows and burned the stumps, then set it out in pine trees... If it weren't for Charlie Wilson from Lufkin, there would be NO Big Thicket left today. The timber companies would have raped the land to the point there would have been no oak timber left... ain't much for a deer to eat on a pine tree... I know the deer come back, but not like they were when the big timber was there... squirrel hunting was the best there on the planet... no more. The big cypress trees along the bayou some were 8 feet and bigger in diameter... most hollow.. they just cut em down and left them lay... what a crying shame... Yea, I know we can hunt once again in a few years after they are done, but it sure will NEVER be the same again.

OK, Rant over, carry on... sorry to hijack your thread. Like I said, I'm sorry to hear this has happened to you. I know EXACTLY how you feel.

I had my spot logged one year, I forgot to move my tree stand and feeder. When I came back 2 weeks later the only thing standing on 15ac was the tree my stand was in and the tree my feeder was in. It was the best hunting spot after that!
