Is there something other than genetics that

Is there something other than genetics that cause one unbranched antler?
Buddy shot this one today. And the place I hunt has 4 or five on camera that look the same. It seems like it's the left side 90% of the time I see something like this

Injuries can screw up that year's antler growth.

That looks like a genetic thing.

How old are the deer with racks like that??

It's usually just an injury during the antler growing stage. But it's a good excuse to kill a buck.

I was gonna say injury like the others have said. However, if you have several deer like this it is genetics! You need to kill em all and start over with better bucks

Could be genetic but doubt it. Could be injury while growing but seems odd in numerous deer on the same place. Not real sure

Figured the ones where I hunt were genetics as too odd they all would injure the same. The thing that made me wonder is photos on here and from friends all seem to have left side, and their locations are spread across state. Wondering if a organ defect or diet somehow makes it prevalent for their left antler to be affected.
For example this one posted yesterday looks a lot like the one my friend shot
