Missing cow - got a theory?

One of our cows has been missing for at least 2 days, and I'm just stumped. Any of you guys have a theory? Here's the scoop:

She's a zebu - a miniature breed that looks like a miniature brahman. She weighs about 300-350 lbs. Her back is less than waist high.

She's solid black, head to tail.

I checked the fences, they're all intact, and the gates have been consistently closed tight.

Stolen? Highly unlikely. She won't let a stranger get within 50 feet of her, and she's just a little trash cow, not the kind somebody would steal. And again, all gates locked and not tampered with.

We have 25 acres, about 1/3 of it cedar/oak thicket. I know it well, every tree, shrub, rock, varmint hole and track, and have searched it 4 times now, under every bush and tree, I swear. Nothing.

No feral hogs here. Have had coyotes in the past, but they would leave a mess.

There are lions in the area, but I don't think a puma can cleanly jump over a 4-foot ranch fence with a 350 pound cow, not to mention run across a highway, then jump over another one.

No buzzards anywhere. No smell. Walked all over the place with our dogs, they didn't blink, and they react to ANYTHING that's different.

The only possibility I can think of is that she jumped over a fence, but none of our neighbors have seen her, and the fence is 4 foot goat fence. She's 3 feet high at the back, I don't think she could jump over it, nor would she have any reason to.

I just came in from another 2-hour search. Still nothing, and I'm pooped.

Any theories from you guys? UFO, maybe?

Cattle prices are high even for one like her. Maybe stolen ?

Gates closed tight....with locks or just tight meaning she can't squeeze through? If no locks than she was stolen for sure.

We had full size cows jump over a 6' corral. I'd say it's likely.

I'm gonna go with stolen as well.

I never realized this before, but those miniature cattle are expensive, and highly sought after by certain people. A guy I used to work with had a micro farm, and had a couple. He paid a pretty penny for his heifers.

Those things can jump. My parents have a few zebu and watched one jump their 4' fence when it got spooked by something.

Rustlers or she got out and keep going; ask around with the neighbors maybe they have seen her. Good luck!!

especially if she has the temperment of a brahman; they can jump like a deer.

this, they will surprise you when something is pushing them... lion gets frisky with her that barbwire fence looks like nothing...

think about it, bet you could clear it with a lion on you tail lol

you walk the fence and look for hair caught in it?

my worry would be if she got out somebody mistaking her for a big ole hog at 400 yards and putting the smack on her

Based on what you guys said, I'm thinking maybe the fence-jumping is a good possibility. She's very frisky. I doubt if she was stolen - a stranger can't get within 50 feet of her before she takes off running. They would have to chase her all over 25 acres on a horse and drag her into a trailer. Highly unlikely, as my in-laws live here as well, and we don't call 911.

I have a full grown hereford, dont know how much he ways but just picture a huge huge bull lol.Was wondering how the heck he kept crossing the fence into our other pasture. The fence was only so long and was in the open so i could see there were no breaks. Till one afternoon i watched him clear that barbed wire like he was a deer!!! Point being if he can do it, a light little cow probably can for sure

I'm thinking she jumped as well, but if you don't find her around the neighbors then stolen. Are you a member of Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association? Whether you are or not does not matter their rangers will assist you, first call the local sheriff and then TSCRA rangers and they will try to track her down, hopefully you have a fair amount of info on her to give to the rangers. If you go to the website for TSCRA you can get all the info you need, they are great at what they do, helped me out big time a couple years ago when we had 4 stolen. Good luck.
