Small changes can equal a missed deer

I can't remember when I didn't use a kisser button; even back when I was shooting trad.

Wait! It was yesterday when my kisser flew off the string upon release of an arrow in the backyard.

So I continued to shoot at 15 yds., thinking I've done this long enough that it shouldn't really make any difference, especially with the peep still being there.

Wrong! Even at 15 yds. everything was 2-4 inches low, and 1-3 inches left. Eventually, I got back in the spot, but it just felt strange. I don't think I could depend on remembering where to anchor in the woods now without a kisser. At 30 yds., I can see the arrow being as much as 10" low and left.

Moral to story: whatever your set-up, don't go to a shoot or into the woods thinking a small change won't affect your shot. Practice with the exact set-up as you plan to shoot for real. If something changes that, make time to practice with the new set-up till you get comfortable with it.

Funny you should post this...I decided to step out yesterday evening and take a few shots at 20 yards. I have never in my life missed the target at 20 yards...shot high over the top...shot again and barely hit the target high. Looked at my setup and my kisser had slid up the string. Moved it back till I felt the small depression in the string...money. You never know.

I shot a buck Oct 16 and hit high. I really was shocked since I'd been practicing hard and felt really confident in my ability to hit the spot. The next time I practiced I realized my peep had slid up the string. My question is, how do you tie it in and for sure keep it firmly in place?

Sort of like a rifle hunter buying a new scope and going out to hunt after the scope was installed and bore-sighted without sitting down at the bench and putting rounds down range. Verify, verify, verify!
