    which game console?

Christmas is just around the corner and we are thinking about getting our son his first game console. He is seven so it will mainly be used for mine craft, Mario cart ect... play station, Xbox, Wii, there are a bunch and the prices vary wildly. Looking for one he can grow with for a while but not spend a fortune. Any gamers or Dads that can help a brother out

You can get a xbox 360 for dirt cheap right now, same with the games since the xbox one came out. Have played on WII ps3 ps4 xbox 1 and xbox 360 (not all mine at buddies places and such) and the xbox consoles win hands down.

Or you can go retro and get him a super nintendo and 2 controllers. Used to love that sucker when I was younger we would have mario kart tournaments with all 3 of us kids and my dad. Get him battleship, super mario, mario kart, and donkey kong and he will be entertained for a long time.

I've got a PS2 (i think) that you can have if you want it. My grandma bought if for me for Christmas years ago. I think the only game i have is a fishing game though.

Coming from a kid who used to play on consoles i would seriously recommend skipping them as they are wayy overpriced for the technology they contain. They are pretty much just dumbed down computers.Your best bet would be to get him a gaming PC. Not only is the gaming better on a PC but computers are the future, the earlier he learns how to use and master a computer, the better for him later in life. Not to mention you can get one for wayyy cheaper. If you really want to get interactive with him, you could build it with him!! It sounds hard at first but its very very easy. I taught myself and had no problems. Built a future proofed PC with a top of the line graphics card for 800.
With a console it will be outdated in a few years as compared to if you get/build a good pc it will be able to handle any game for years to come. Plus he can use it for school etc.. not just games

If you need any help or are interested in a PC i can help you, even build it for you if you pay for the parts. You can build a pc that will be future proofed for any game for years to come for around 300-500.

PS4 and Xbox One are the most recent consoles on the market; best tech and graphics, etc. Both have only been available for about a year. With that said, both are the most expensive and have the least amount of games, etc, available.

The generation before those were the PS3 and Xbox 360. You could get either one of those brand new with a few games and accessories for the same price of just the console itself on the newer ones above. There are also tons of games out on them.

If you want Mario, then Nintendo is the way to go. The Wii is still around and Nintendo also has a hand-held console. Nintendo has pretty much fallen behind Sony and Microsoft though. It does seem though Nintendo has more games for the younger age group.

Nintendo consoles are the cheapest and have most of the Mario games. He may not like it as much a few years down the road when he wants to play games online though. I have had a PS3, Xbox 360 and a PS4. I like the PS4, but for the online servers get hacked more on the Playstation when compared to the Xbox. Their is no difference when watching DVDs now on the Xbox or Playstation. Both of the new consoles are blue ray compatible.

I wouldn't allow him to play online for several years though. There is entirely too much cursing, trash talking, and racial slurs used online. I feel like more kids play online on the Xbox and more adults play online on the Playstation. With that being said, I feel like there is worse language used on the Xbox, but the Playstation is not free from that same language.

My son is 9 now and has had a Wii for a few years. I would say there are more age appropriate games for the Wii than the others. By the time he's 12-13 you can upgrade him to the Xbox or Playstation.
