LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police confirms former baseball star Jose Canseco was hurt in an accidental shooting Tuesday afternoon at his house on the eastside of the Las Vegas valley.

According to police, the former player accidentally shot himself in the left hand while he was cleaning his handgun. He was taken to University Medical Center. There is no word on the seriousness of the injury.

I am always left to ponder, how do you shoot yourself while cleaning a firearm?

I know the answer is to violate about three major safety rules, any of which would have prevented it .... but still, how does it happen? Let's see, I need to clean my gun so I think I will point it at my hand (leg, arm......) and pull the trigger and see what happens before I disassemble it?

My neighbor was a DPS and he accidentally shot himself, doctor told him 85% of self inflicted accidental gun shot wounds treated at hospitals were LE. It happens....
