pooh Lost my first bow kill

50 yrs old never taken a animal with bow. Got my set up this yr nice and ready. 25 yrd max. Had cpl good bucks on cam and several doe. One doe always alone. I decided if she showed up I would take her. Well here she came and I let her mill around for a bit just to make sure she was the correct doe. Decided to shoot. hit her a little high behid the shoulder. They drop more than I thought. Still felt good about shot. went back and got my son waited prolly 30-45 min. found no blood. went about 25 yrds and found lighted noc broke off about 1/2 inch above fletching blood and hair all over it ,found few drops of blood. crawed around no more blood. Another 25 yrd fence crossing several big drops of blood maybe dime size. crawled under fence found cpl more small drop tiny drops for about 15 yrds then nothing. I crawled around the woods for 3 hrs notta darn thing. Even came home got my dog " not a tracking dog but she can find a rabbit" well we found a armadillo and 2 rabbits no deer. We dont know who owns the land next to where we hunt. Even went to the county and they couldnt tell us who owned it. really bummed out I have been shooting 3d several yrs now. And have hunted with a bow just never got a good chance to shoot that i was comfy with

Bummer. I've been there before. Unfortunately, it happens, but don't let it discourage you.

Hate to hear it but they can drop a lot!

Where do you hunt? Are there any tracking dogs off of our list near you?

Happens with a gun. Happens with a bow. Hunt long enough and it happens. Sorry to hear. You'll get em next time. Good luck to you.

You may have hit her through the backstraps. If so, she'll be back at the feeder before long.

Happened to me Thursday night. Made a good shot. Blood within 10 yards of shot. Complete pass through. Blood trail good in spots. Crossed fence line. Obtained permission. Searched from 8p-12a then 9a-3p Friday. Last drop 160 yards from shot. No more blood no sign of deer. Very disappointed. Had to return to city life. Sux. May look Saturday morning after hunting this weekend.

                      2 kinds of Bowhunter

Ones that have lost a deer, and ones that are GOING to lose a deer

Or maybe he didn't die. Keep watching your cameras because I have lost count of the tracking calls I have received that found the deer still alive later the same season.
