If you only want one pair, I highly recommend a pair of breathables. Cabelas makes a good set, as does Macks Prairie Wings. I wear breathables all season long, as far north as Saskatchewan, because I can't stay warm in neoprenes….but I can layer under the breathables with as much clothing as needed to stay warm. You try to layer under neoprenes and you will feel constricted. Just my .02, but I spend a lot of time in waders.

cabelas breathable will be my next pair.

Get some insulated pants for late Dec and Jan.

I've got the 1600 mag by Cabelas and they're great. What I don't care for, especially when its cold, is after the hunt. I find that my pants are soaked from sweating, but I'll say they keep you warm while hunting.

Buy the best you can afford. One cold morning with cold water in you waders and you will know why. I have a pair of cabelas brush busters. They are awesome.

If you're looking at breathable waders, go with Simms. They're more expensive, but they're worth it.

                  .

Breathables. Just layer up when gets cold. Way more comfy than neoprene. Most bootfoot breathable waders will still have insulation in the boots.

I use La Crosse thermal neoprene. You'll be glad you did on a cold morning in the water. they are worth it.

Cabelas breathable waders are tough to beat for the money. I got the zipper ones. I was hesitant at first but will now never go back. Wear year round, just layer if cold.
