My hunting vacation with several TBHers. Picture Heavy!!!

Last week I spent 9 days of my vacation hunting and loved every second of it.

We started off at my deer lease for a couple of days trying to get NotJose a doe. The deer did not cooperate. He had a chance at a real young doe but passed waiting for an older one.

Early monday morning we were off to Alpine to meet up with Cuz and the other guys. We were heading to Terlinga ranch to archery mule deer hunt for 4 days.

Cuz had tire trouble and was two hours late so we decided to drive into Terlinga to check out that huge town.

We got to Terlinga ranch around 3:00 and wasted little time gettimg out looking for desert mulies.

Being spot and stalk hunt anything would be a trophy to me. We were looking for mule deer buck, doe, javies, or aoudad.

The terrain made it tough to stalk to say the least. Rocks, dead grass, no wind, and no cover made it were we would be shooting long distances or get real lucky.

Finding targets were not a problem. We were on mule deer almost immediately driving to camp and when we headed out hunting.

On the 1st evening one of the hunters were within 30 yards of a monster aoudad only to be busted buy a ewe that no one saw.

On the second day Bryan killed a mule deer doe in the evening and there were several shots and close calls by other hunters.

It was the 3rd evening when NotJose and I really got into the action. Black sniper got into some javies and radioed us and said they were still there and he killed his two. We were close by so we took off in that direction to see if we could get one.

I think Cuz played a trick on us because he suggested we take our shoes off and finish the stalk in socks. I still have cactus in my feet from that.

We got within 30 yards then the javies decided to walk towards us. At 20 yards we started shooting. I shot two and NotJose shot 1 maybe 2. Now we are out of arrows so I ran down grabbed one out of a dead javi and sent NJ over the hill with it. He found the one he shot because it charged him. He shot it again at 4 feet.

cuz comes to help us find them and also gets charged by one. It was a crazy 10 minutes of shooting. Ended up finding 4 javi and know at least one more we couldn't find.

On the last morning last 5 min of hunt we decide to go look for that last javi.

        Remember when I mentioned luck?

I see Cuz at the top of hill and he holds up his hand showing Two fingers and points away from him. I sneek towards him and get an arrow on. As I created the hill I see two mule deer. I ranged the closest at 33 yards. I drew and the deer saw me. He started trotting to my left and as soon as he slowed I center punched him.

I did not see NotJose to my left at full draw also. He was about to shoot the same deer. He did launch an arrow at the second deer as it was running away and actually barely missed.

I was so excited at my luck and timing of the kill that I almost tacked Cuz off the side of the mountain.

After a 10.5 hour drive back home I slept over night and woke up refreshed in the morning and headed back to my lease with my kids.

It was my sons 1st sit in an archery stand and for 3.5 years old he did awesome

We caught 4 pigs in the trap and I let my kids kill them. That was my sons 1st kill. I helped aim and he squeezed the trigger.

It was a great week with great friends. I ended missing 5 shots before conectimg on my 6th. The other shots were 65-75 yards and two of them were at running deer.

This was my 1st spot and stalk deer hunt and won't be my last. I can't wait to hunt there again next year!!!!
