I tried mixing some essential oils (recipe I found on the internet) and it had a "lemon-like" smell. I thought it would be better than smelling like deet. Tried it at Aransas and grabbed the deet within 10 minutes of being out of the truck.....It worked ok at home but not down there at all. The Thermacell saved my ***** down there, but it does put off a smell too, just not as much as the deet sprays.

Only problem is that thermacell only works when you are sitting still. If you hunt in a place like Sam Houston National Forest and have to walk far in they will eat you alive and you'd be like a mummified corpse by the time you get to your spot . I wear two masks that fully cover my head and neck sprayed with Sawyer Permethrin spray. One mask is the tight thin spandex and the other is the loose net type which I wear over the tight one. I also spray my boots and pants down with it to guard against ticks. The Permethrin spray does not seem to have any order after it dries. Permethrin is basically the same thing that is in the thermacell pads.Last edited by RemMan700; 10-24-2014, 01:46 PM.
