OT: Question on shipping a firearm

I realize the laws on shipping a complete gun are pretty strict, with it having to go to an FFL, etc. However, I have a quesation...

I am thinking of sending my Ruger P90 to FuzzyMuzzy (anybody heard from him lately?) for teflon coating. If I strip the gun down and remove the barrel from the slide, take off the grips, etc. can I ship the gun through US Mail or UPS without having to claim it as a gun and ship it to a FFL?

I would call Ups or whoever you're going to ship through.I would think it's just a part and not a gun if stripped.

I don't have my book handy but I'm thinking that by law FuzzyMuzzy needs to be a FFL to keep firearms for repair overnight. They have to be entered into his permanent log when he recieves them and also entered into his permanent log when he ships them back out.
You can take the gun apart into every single little screw and it won't matter. The action/frame has the serial number and that's the part that has shipping restrictions.

FuzzyMuzzy does have an FFL if I remember correctly.

In that case you'll have to ask him. Never dealt with shipping a handgun to a gunsmith. If it was a non-regulated long gun you could just ship it to him, but handguns are different.
