    Ranger vs. golf cart

Need some advice from the guys that have owned both. I've always had rangers nothing else. This year where we are hunting and how we are set up a ranger is too loud. I know they make the EV version, but it's more than I'm willing to spend on an electric cart right now. I've looked into a couple other brand electric carts and they are in that same range on price. I priced out a cart with everything I would want and it's pretty much in line. The cart I'm looking at is a Yamaha 48v with independent suspension and heavy coil springs. Where we hunt is a little hilly not bad, some rock, but not that much. Roads are pretty good so I would think a cart would be just fine. Has anyone sold a ranger for a cart and then went back? If so why? Storage, pulling, mud? The only thing that concerns me a little is the re-sale on the cart. Let's say you spend 5k on a cart and keep it a year or two. How's the re-sale?

I have owned a club cart president with a lift and all terrain tires. Now I have a Polaris Ranger Crew 800. For me there is no comparison. The club cart was nice to cruise around the niebor hood. When it rained and the trails were slick the club cart would stick. They also do not do well in sand. The power is a big issue for me. When I'm not hunting I'm working around the ranch and the Ranger has the power to pull and haul anything I need it to. If your just running too and from the stand and you don't have a issue with mud or sand you will be fine with a golf cart.

If you are just looking for transportation, and speed is not an issue, buy a regular electric cart with a modest lift and tires. If you are buying used, make sure the batteries are relatively fresh. I love my carts. Essentially no upkeep, quiet, never had a range issue, and my two wheel drive cart does surprisingly well "off road". What I have learned about carts is, the further away from factory stock you get, the more your asking for trouble. Stock carts will last forever with minimal upkeep.

Gas rangers are awesome but they are in a different category than golf carts. Don't set yourself up for disappointment by thinking a golf cart will do the same things as a ranger.

I have both. Golf carted is lifted with oversized tires. The cart works well for decent roads and small tracts. I have had deer walk right up to it and sniff it then go along with their business.

I just bought a ranger and really like it. The deer don't seem to mind it when I'm driving or when it's parked.

Of the two, I prefer the Ranger hands down.

I've owned both, and they are built for 2 totally different uses.

If your trails to/fro your hunting area are good, without much mud or water, a golf cart will work well.

Are you planning to keep both of them or replace the ranger.

Cart is quite. All other attributes go to the Ranger.

Mud, filling feeders etc need a Ranger

There is a time and place for both. Add the cart to the Ranger and you are ready for everything!

The ranger is a 13' crew. I will more than likely sell this one for now then go to the cart if I end up doing it. That's why one of my concerns is resale on the cart. Resale on the rangers are good imo. I will more than likely get another ranger another day after the cart.

I do realize they are two different machines for the use. I just figured if I really can't use the ranger at the lease right now it will just get used in the subdivision. If I get a cart I can use it for both the lease and at home.

I have a lifted golf cart. Great if its dry for a mobile blind in the wheat fields. Not much for working. I would much rather have a 2 seat ranger.

How's the resale on a newer cart with 1-2 year old batteries?

I'd say good. The battery's are the biggest expense. I just put brand new ones on my cart and it was $640

Mike, if you sold our Polaris what would you ask for it?

I have a cart and love it, we have decent rds and I have built a few mods for mine. For what I do, I wouldn't trade it for a ranger.

Carts resale is crazy good right now, simply because of the price of utv's.
