Well, when I woke up yesterday, I just knew it was gonna be a good day. Nothing to do at the fair, school was only til noon, and I was gonna get some hunting in before the storms hit. Well, all went according to plan, even watched a small 4pt buck mill around right before dark. But, upon exiting the stand things got really exciting.
See, I decided that since it was so hot, and since I hunt in a box blind anyway, I would just wear shorts and tenni-shoes and be cooler while I hunted in the 90 deg. heat. Well, that turned out to be a bad idea because as I was leaving the stand, I was shining my flashlight into the food plot looking for eye-shine, rather than shining it where I was walking. Had I shined it in the foot path, I might have seen the copper head snake in my trail. Needless to say, we played tag, and I thought he won. But, after getting myself out of the woods and into the ER, it ended up just being a dry bite (no venom), so I guess we can call the game of tag a draw. They observed me for a couple hours, and with no pain or swelling they sent me home with a tetanus shot.
Today, my foot is a little tender, but no swelling or discoloration. Just gonna try to rest up and take it easy today, and maybe hit the stand again tomorrow.
Moral of the story, always wear boots in the woods.
