Ha ha, you have no idea. Try owning several boats you run in saltwater and get back to me. I have learned just do them right from the get go and it's much easier.

On my old little ranch I had this problem all the time. Too many rodents would chew on wires. No problem now as I sold the property and live on a half acre.

        I feel your pain.

I fix these problems for a living, so I get customers come in at their wits end, because they just can't get them working. Usually we fix them in about 30 minutes, unless we have to rewire or its something major. That just makes them feel even worse!

Just a tip, but just trying to ground with the ball has never worked out right for me, always caused the lights to flicker.

Don't know if that means I'm Prepared or just Too Lazy to fix the dang lights?

I have to drive mine a few miles before they and the electric brakes start working. Have to break through the rust on the hitch.

The trailer has a seperate grounding wire so that isn't the problem. A buddy told me to go to Northern Tool and get a set of the magnetic lights. I think that is what I am going to do in order to preserve my sanity.
