Moderate rain = no problem. Deer will move, especially between showers.

The only thing you have to be careful of potential heavy rain coming in. I took a shot on a deer with rain within hours away. We tracked that deer and had to call it off when the sky opened up and there was lightning, etc. We had to call it off for safety and needless to say it was enough to wash out the blood trail.

I like hunting in the rain and will do so if I'm out at the lease just hoping for it to break and catch some movement. Four seasons ago three of us were at the lease in the middle of nov and there were deer moving a lot through a heavy rain and one of the guys shot a nice buck.

Watched a very good 4.5 year old buck (scores 134, BIL shot him later) last year on opening day for 30 minutes while it was pouring and I mean pouring down rain. He left then came back 45 minutes later while it was still raining hard. The entire clearing I was watching was under 4-6 inches of water. Had to stay in the blind till almost 12:00 because it was raining so hard. I barely made it back to the house on the 4 wheeler, got stuck several times and was covered in mud when I did reached the house.

          This^^^

I prefer to hunt out of a box blind so that if it does begin to rain on and off, I don't get soggy. But, I wont hunt if the rain is supposed to be heavy and for extended periods of time. The deer will probably bed down in heavy rain, but might as likely ignore a light shower. I kinda look at it as I would if I were workin outdoors. If the rain isn't heavy enough for me to stop working, then its not heavy enough for the deer to stop feeding. If its gonna make me run for cover, then so will they. But again, that's also dependent on how long I think the showers are going to last.

Then again, you might get luck in a downpour as well.

I would rather hunt in a light rain. Always see more deer and easy to cover scent.

so begs the next question...best rain gear for those hunts? I'm in a tripod or in the ground...so good stuff would be important...of which at this moment I have none. I'm not afraid of swinging by academy, bass pro or even cabela's today!!

Over the many years that I have hunted deer,I have lost 2 due to rain washing out the blood trail.....I know, should have made a better shot in the first place......but it is what it is...but...deer move in the rain.

This is the perfect time of year to hunt a scrape line. I get out there just as the rain is slowing down. The bucks will come out to refresh their scrapes that the rain has washed away. Great time to catch a Buck IMO

My favorite days to hunt are when it's about 40 and just nasty out. A slow steady drizzle to light rain. Have seen good activity and some good bucks.

Where I'm going to be hunting the forecast calls for rain all night, tapering off about the time the feeder goes off. That could make for lots of deer movement right after daybreak. Fingers crossed!

Get them frog toggs and sit it out. I love light rain while I'm sitting in a tree. Beats your scent down and covers up some noise you may make. And yep when that rain clears they will be on the move.
