What to do when a package goes awal in transit

Placed an order at Midway USA a couple weeks ago. Got the shipping info 2 days later. Tracking says that on 9/30 it was transferred to USPS for delivery, but USPS says they did not receive the package. All they say is that they received the electronic info to expect a package. UPS says they don't have it because it was sent to USPS.

What the heck am I suppose to do when no one can tell me anything? Am I just out the cash, and someone likely has a stash of 30rd AR mags? UPS and USPS are just pointing fingers and not giving me anything useful. I hate the fact that they transfer packages... there's no reason to do so!

I've done that... awaiting return contact. Not sure what they could do though. I know it's not their fault, but kind of a bad first impression, having never dealt with them before.

they will work it out, ultimately Midway will make it right.

We've lost packages in the ups/usps shuffle, but they always show up.

Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks........and you have to be a bit noisy about it.

It depends on who is paying the shipping.

If Midway is paying the shipping on their account then you need to tell them to file a claim for lost freight and replace you item.

If you are paying the shipping then you will have to file the claim yourself. It's all a big pain in the butt. Also if you are paying then you can also have UPS and USPS both do dock checks. Ask them to check their hubs where they transfer freight. If you don't get any answers ask to speak to their OS&D department to see if they can help you search for your package before a claim is filed.

You're definitely not out the cash. Midway's obligation was to get the package to you. They have not done that, and they're not in the business of telling customers "we gave to it UPS; go file a claim." As AC said, contact Midway. EDIT: You did that, but are "awaiting return contact." I would call and speak to a live human; likely more success that way.

As to your suggestion that there's no reason to transfer the packages–well that's completely wrong. There are plenty of reasons for that, not the least of which is cost savings to the consumer. Also, who comes to your house everyday, UPS or the USPS? USPS. So, it makes more sense to get the packages to them–they're coming to your house anyway.

Lastly, it's AWOL, as in Absent With[O]ut Leave.

Best of luck. I am confident you'll get your package. If you are a good negotiator, you'll even get a discount from Midway on your next order.

Also ask them both if they have a section of their dock where they put packages that don't have labels. If you let them know the shipper label says Midway they will be able to check those areas as well.

Guess I'll just have to stay on them.

And Fed Ex and UPS both come to the house very regularly, with a business being run out of the house. So I stay firm on not seeing the point to transfer packages between carriers. Why pay for one carrier to leave it to another to finish the job.. they aren't the ones I trusted with the task. Now it's the reason for my frustration.

Unfortunately you won't get much say so in that. In most cases they have partner deals on delivery areas. The days they don't deliver to certain areas they will give it to their "partner carrier" to finish it out. It's very common for carriers to do this.

AWOL* but on the real, sorry to hear that. I always turn into a stalker when I order something online. I'm checking my tracking number all day trying to see if it's updated anywhere Haha

Well how big a boy are ya?

Seriously though, do you really think your home-based business is big enough to except you from UPS's deal with USPS?

Just my views. Didn't start this thread to debate them.

Thanks for the thoughts and advice, everyone. Sorry for the typo

I'll tell you this I got a couple of packages from UPS and one had a hole in it and was much heavier than the others. I looked in it there was a box of about 2000 1/4 bolts in there that was going to Brownsville. How would they have ever found that if I had to decided to keep it and not return it. Not saying I would do that but you know some people just don't care.

USPS doesnt really track the package like fedex and ups does. you wont see anything on it until it shows up on your doorstep.

I have been in the same boat and Midway made it right, they have top notch customer service and will take care of you, stay on the phone until you talk to a person.
