    Got a question

Ok so I am going to bexar county bowhunts this weekend. I can take one wt buck 8 points or more and 4.5 or older. Or an axis with a main beam of 27" or better. I would prefer to take an axis. My question is what is the easiest way to measure an axis on the hoof. If I shoot one too small it's $1000 and I can't afford that lol.

I would study some pics of bucks that are 27+ inches. Maybe print out a few pics

Tip of nose to where the horns come out of the head is right at 12". Take that distance and measure up the main beam. 12, 24, ...

You can also mark the feeder legs. Then when they get close to the legs and eat you can use your best judgement.

Feeder 1 and feeder 2 are pretty decent axis spots with feeder 1 being my choice. Maybe Bodie's Blind coming in next.

                Good Luck out there!

When you go to bexar county Todd has some sheds on table that you can use as a reference. We were out there a few months ago and I took a vet to hunt axis for his first hunt with a bow. Set him up on water and a hour after he got in blind shot a nice axis. I guess beginners luck. Lol

Careful, we had a dude who came up short. $1K...down the drain. We still had a good time. I left a pig there with an arrow stuck in him...take one down for me. I sat the tripod in the southwest and had axis, wt, pigs, & rams in the area. Can't remember the #, but I spotted tons of shooters.
