    Crossbow

Folks I had back surgery and am having trouble drawing my Mathews. I was thinking of buying a crossbow to hunt with before season ends. What y'all think is the best deal out there?

I'll stay tuned on this one. I'm buying a Xbow for my lady and my kids for the season and off season. I don't anticipate that it will have much success so I'm not investing an arm on it. Currently looking at the Barnett Jackal, just under $300 with a scope.
I wonder if anyone has a complaint on it.

Any of the 10 point line is greatness. I think they make an entry level Xbow for around 300 definitely would recommend

The Barnetts are the cheapest price, but the Cabelas bargain cave in Buda has crossbows. They have stacks of refurbished Stryker crossbows right now. These are nice.

They also have a few Excaliburs if you prefer. I have both and like both. I also have a Parker that I like a lot. If I could only have one it would be the Excalibur. I think the Excalibur is the best investment. Ten years from now it will be easy to get a string and it will be less likely to need any new parts. I am not so sure about the others.

              Stryker (fast, quiet)
              Excalibur (low maintenance, louder)
Parker (solid bow, good company IMO)

I've got a Wicked Ridge - Ten Point's lower end line (similar to the Mathews/Mission relationship). Accurate, quick, quiet. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another Wicked Ridge brand new if I was shopping.

I ordered a Barnett Raptor FX, and noticed that the bolts did not sit flat. Well the flight track/rail tapered down where the cables go through the stock. I thought I was a machining problem, so I went to Cabela's and noticed all of them were like that.
It bothered me so much, i spent another $100. for the Barnett Brotherhood.

Buddy sells xbows. The barnetts are his best seller and almost no returns

I've had the Jackal for 2 yrs now. Love it. I don't do well in tree's so the XBow gives me an edge while ground hunting. Deer in my avitar is a Barnett Xbow kill.

Big Matthews fan! I have recently gotten a Horton crossbow, the Brotherhood, and love it. The more I use it, the more I like it.

Excalibur, bought one two weeks ago before I had surgery, easy to sight in and ready to hunt. Unfortunately the Dr. has not cleared me yet. Hope next week he gives me the green light to shoot the xbow and a few weeks later the bow. My preference is my recurve, but glad to have the Excalibur just in case.
