I don't care much for nursing homes. I know they serve a very good purpose but none-the-less I don't like them. As a kid I spent a lot of Sunday afternoons going from room to room visiting with the residents of the nursing home. My mom made sure I tagged along. I suppose the Lord somehow let my mom know it was going to be basic training for a kid that was going to be a pastor some day. I still don't care for nursing homes but I love the residents.
This morning I took off to make some visits. I spent some time this morning with one of our dear saints and her husband at the nursing home. Her name is Billye and his name is Dan.
I don't know how much time Billye has left but I am certain she knows the Lord. When Billye was awakened for my visit she said, "Oh hi Mark good to see you. I guess you know my time is short and this is it." I replied, "Yes, I do." She then proceeded to tell me to not worry that she is ready. And then she asked me the same thing she asked me back in 2009 when we thought she wasn't going to be around long. Billye said, "Mark, you take care of my Dan. He's going to need you, so you take care of my Dan."
I couldn't help it. I began to weep. Why? It's really simple. Her love for God is so profound, her love for her husband so strong, and her love for her pastor so wide. I will miss her terribly when she transitions from life temporal to life eternal.
Before she slid off to sleep she asked one more request, "Mark, you pray that I don't linger. I am ready!"
I ask for your prayers for Billye, Dan and his family. They are a blessing to us all at Emporia First Church of the Nazarene.
This December will be two years since my mom passed away and nearly everyday I am reminded of the godly training I received from my mom when I was a kid growing up in San Antonio, Lubbock, and Burkburnett, Texas.
Take care guys and thanks for letting an old preacherman pour out his heart. I love the GS.
