Maybe you was to glean enough info from the posts, but if not here's my two cents, probably the same as posted above, but in my terminology.
1)a contour line on the topo map indicates that it is the same elevation wherever that line goes.
2) between 2 coutour lines there is a 10 foot change in elevation, either uphill or downhill.
3) the closer the lines are together, the steeper the terrain is. when they are very close together, watch out, close to being billy goat or sheep country. For the most part I think deer avoid these and where they flatten out may be a deer travel corridor. Conversely, the farther apart the lines are, the flatter the terrain.
4) Where you see a contour line make a circle, that for the most part is a hill top, even if small. I guess it could be a depression also, but I just never paid attention to depressions, because they probably be full of water.
5) If you spot 2 circles near each other, the area between them is called a saddle and can be a nice pinch point.
6) the spot on the map shown above is a ditch or dry creek bed, and could be a spot deer follow if there is no other geographical features to guide them.
That's all I got.
Not really.......Between 2 contour lines, being 10 ft change, leaves a lot of details not shown. small ditches, knolls, ect..Last edited by buckmastertexas; 10-01-2014, 10:02 PM.
