Drawn for Gus Engeling Whitetail hunt, anyone been there?

I was lucky enough to get drawn for a whitetail management hunt at Gus Engeling. Never been there. It's a rifle hunt. Anyone ever hunted there?

I bow hunted it back in the day. Maybe 10 years ago. I did not see a deer but several were taken by the other bow hunters while I was there. I imagine that your chances with a rifle will be pretty good.

    congrats!

When I went the section I was in had a lot of hardwoods. Was in the dead of winter with about a 4" layer of dry dead leaves on the ground. Basically had to make a racket getting to a spot and then still hunt. No luck for me but it is a nice place to hunt

I've been there 3 times. Do a search for it here. You will find lots of info.

Sounds like it might be hog central. Got to be some decent bucks running around though.

It's my first time getting drawn for any TPWD hunt. Hope I get a shot.

Killed a 137 there years ago. Been drawn for the bow hunt for the third time in the last four years. They have some of the biggest hogs I've seen. Saw a real big buck last year buck couldn't get a shot.

All 3 times were a youth hunt. This is where my son killed his first 2 deer. Never saw a hog. All deer!!! One was a massive 10 point, but this was a doe/spike hunt. Do a speed scout of your area. Shouldn't take long to figure out where and how to set up if you know how to read the signs!!!

I was drawn for the GDE hunt Nov. 10-14. My knees have gone south on me this year. Hoping I get to go. It will be popups and no hiking for me, so I will be trying to find out about easy access areas for us old folk. Any suggestions welcome!
Hunted Richland Creek several times with my Polaris Ranger. I didn't know Gus Engling dosen't allow them till after I entered. Hard to believe 2 WMA's in same jurisdiction are managed so different. They are both great places!

Anything you want to know specific? I have 6 or 7 hunts there in the last 3yrs. Will also be going in Jan. on a management hunt.

I will be going to bed soon (shiftworker) but will log back on tonight at work. I will help anyway I can.

For those that got drawn, how many preference points do you have? I'm at 9 and didn't get drawn.

me and a buddy got drawn with 1 point this year.

i just called and they said you will get your compartment assignment on the first morning, so not much time to scout for the first hunt it sounds like.

we will be there for the decemeber rifle hunt.
