    Recommendations for extended warranty

Can anybody give a recommendation for an after market extended warranty? We're looking for one for my wife's vehicle. Or, do you have one I should avoid? Any input would be great! Thanks in advance.

I had the Route 66 warranty through my local credit union.. Used it 2xs and didn't have any issues

CNA OR ASC both are good aftermarket warrantys, you may also look at a OEM aftermarket specfic policy which depends on what vehicle you drive GMPP/ FORD ESP ,ETC.

Thanks guys. We had it under AUL and wasn't too thrilled with them. I'll check out the others mentioned. The manufacturer said they wouldn't cover it anymore. That is why I have to go with a 3rd party.

Not trying to be rude, or anything like that, but why would you get an extended warranty on a Saturn ? If you love the vehicle or have another financial issue that is keeping you in it I understand. If you have the means, I say get a different vehicle, preferably one that is still in business.

We have used several over the years at the dealers that I worked with. Wheels, Inc. was one that was sold via the dealer, and it had quite a bit of coverage, sometimes even so far as the radio, which is unheard of. I highly suggest taking your car to the repair center that you want to do whatever repairs you will have in the future, and having them evaluate the vehicle. Sometimes there are caps to how much they (extended warranty) will spend on the vehicle. If you have a car that needs $2800 worth of repairs, and you pay for an extended warranty that is supposed to cover it, and then they won't cover it based on not having oil change receipts, it can get frustrating. When the company that is doing the repairs sells the warranty, usually they not only make money on the warranty, but also on the repairs, and can work the price a little bit. They also know (or should know) EXACTLY what is covered by them, and can tell you what repairs or how much money you will have to pay for the repairs you need.

If you have taken your vehicle to a shop already and know what repairs are needed, you can email or pm me the info and I will look at them, as well as any Ext. Warranties you are considering and help in any way that I can.

I so wish we could get rid of this vehicle. I absolutely hate it. My wife likes it for the size and seating arrangement for our kids. Ever since it has hit 80K miles, it has been in the shop off and on. I'm not talking about minor issues either. I had AUL warranty that expired this past April and I have got my money's worth out of it. I've had over 10K of repairs and rental cars paid for by the extended warranty that I purchased when we bought the vehicle. Now, the transmission is throwing codes and I don't want to pay for a one time fix. I'd rather pay for the extended warranty, have them fix it, and have the vehicle covered for an additional 40K miles for other issues that I know will arise. We cannot get rid of her vehicle yet as we are currently upside down on it still. We still owe about 10K on it. I've even though about driving it to the bad side of town, leaving it unlocked with the keys in it with a note that I never want to see that vehicle again!!

I knew we took a risk getting into a Saturn when we bought it, but my wife fell in love with it. I knew I should have pushed for the Tahoe.

As for the current repairs, the transmission shop I took it to told me that it is throwing so many codes, that I needed to take it to the dealership first and then back to them once they figure out exactly what is going on.

Strange thing is, the codes seem to be intermittent.

It may save you money in the long run to roll over negative equity and get something more dependable than dropping that kind of money into continuous repairs. That depends on just how far upside down it is and how much your willing to roll over. just a thought

We owe about 10k. They'll trade is for about 6 - 6,500. I just can't swallow taking that kind of loss. My thought process is to get a comprehensive extended warranty to cover for 3-4 more years until we can get more right side up and then get rid of it. Also, my truck is 15 years old and I'll be needing a something newer soon and I can't afford to get into two payments at the same time.

Gbird your main problem is NONE of these companies cover pre-existing conditions prior to contract start date, you are already having a transmission concern that has not been properly diagnosed with no contract in place. Your chances of this being declined due to long term wear is very high. Save ur $$$$$ and fix it .
All of this is from my knowledge from being a current mechanical adjustor/inspector for over 25+ companies. This is what I do daily.

GBird it depends on how shady the place is that you buy the extended warranty from. The dealer that I worked for previously would use it as a sales tactic. We got kickbacks for every one that was sold. Me being the mechanic, I would write the car up for what repairs it legitimately needed. The Service Advisor would tell you that you needed these repairs, again legit, and it would cost, say, $4800, actual pricing. BUT, he can sell you this extended warranty for $2500, and all of them are covered, so u save money. Come back in a month, get the repairs done, all you are paying for is the extended warranty. After a while, they got caught doing it and were slapped on the hand.... Basically they started doing it with another company.

If you are having that many transmission issues, I would highly recommend putting a reman unit in it. I'm not sure on the Saturn, but a lot of vehicles now have the TCM built into the transmission itself. A rebuild shop will have to charge you more to replace all the electronics in the transmission, and then the labor on top of it. If you use a reman unit, it has all different ones than you, and very rarely have issues. I say all of this based on not having any ideas of what you have wrong with yours, not knowing what the codes are.

It's like if you have a problem with your computer, and you just say f it and get a whole new one. You don't have those faults anymore, and you could get an extended warranty on it with no faults after that. PM Me the codes and I will tell you what possible faults it is based on the codes. Those codes can easily help tell you if it's something to do with a mechanical fault or an electrical fault.

Hope it helps, sorry for the delayed response.
