Question about spraying cattle for flies

I was told I could get some Permethrin 10% solution from tractor supply and dilute it to the proper strength and then pour it on my cows back between the shoulders and it will soak in to the blood stream and keep the flies away. I don't see that method on the instructions on the bottle. It says to spray it all over the cows or use it on a back rubber. Any of you guys use it that way?

What product do you guys with cattle use? What method do you use to put it on? I am not set up to do ear tags yet.

    Thanks,

    Alan

We use Saber Pour-On. It works better than any of the other cheaper products we've tried. If you buy the gallon size, it comes with a sprayer that allows you to adjust the dose so with one squeeze you squirt the exact amount needed per head, which I believe is about 15 cc.

Yes you can, but use in a sprayer. Ear tags or fly block s work best for us.

Permethrin is not a pour on insecticide. I don't know anything about absorbtion but do know that the stuff is used for everything from lice shampoo to fly control in dairy barns.

Get the 1% permethrin pour on in a gallon jug. Pour on their backs as they come down the chute. Use it all the time.

I use a variety of pour ons - rotate them. Saber, Cydexin (also a dewormer), etc. Pour straight from the bottle lasts 2-3 months.

I have found the add water varieties only last about 2 weeks or until it rains.

Ivomec pour on the cheap stuff, or get some oilers put out, dust bags will also work.

Nothing works. I've tried em all. Best method works maybe a week. If you don't have many cows the fly ear tags work good but aren't real cheap for a large herd

I rotate Ivomec and Cydectin. You'll be hard pressed to find something that works 100% but I like these.
