    Need some help trapping coyotes

I know there is a big thread about trapping already but I need some extra help. I have bought a bunch of jaw traps and all kinds of baits to use while trapping at my buddies place. I bought coyote urine, bait, lure, and gland scent stuff to use. We set 6 traps this weekend with ine trap had a coyote print 6 inches from the pan. What kind of trapping secrets can yall give me about trapping coyotes in south Texas. The ranch is in Freer if that matters, I think coyotes in other parts of the state may be trapped different than in south Texas. Thanks

I have had success with snares on high fence places, but this is a low fence place and dont feel comfortable placing snares at crossing

I trap in Beeville which isn't too far from Freer. I set dirt hole, and urine post set the most. What Baits are you using, What lures are you using....Could be using too much.

Set on sign. Wear glove and try to keep your set off of everything. Pictures of your sets will help if you have any

Do what was said above, find someone with experience to get you pointed in the right direction. If coyotes are giving you problems, you don't need to be educating them. Go txtrappers.com, find a rep for your area, they should be able to point you in the right direction, if not there look up wolfernation.com or google coyote trapping. Coyotes are very cautious and very easy to educate, there's just a few things you have to get right.

watch a bunch of youtube videos on trap sets, and master various sets and techniques .... flat set, dirt hole, etc..

are you using a visual attractant ? animal bones, egg shells, feather, etc.. ?

are you directing their feet to the pad with sticks/logs ?

based on my experience, successful trapping is a learned skill as you learn from your mistakes and get better over time.

by making poor sets, you are only educating the dogs and making your trapping success more difficult

Thanks for all the responses. We were setting dirt hole sets near crossing in the fences. I will drill a hot to put some bait down the hole and I would also put coyote urine on the wooden fence post. I bought all kinds of hawbreakers baits and lures. If you use the urine how much should you put on the post. I will defintelty check out those links. Thanks for all the information.

PM Nick from Brushy Hill (Horitexan), he's a yote and cat killing machine. I'm sure if there's "a better mouse trap", he knows about it.

Good luck and if they're that bad, you need to be out the spring seriously hunting them to help out your fawn crop.

are you using rubber gloves and a mat to minimize your scent ?

traps have been dyed and waxed ?

scent control is HUGE in trapping any animal

Go over to Trapperman.com and get a education before you educate the critters!!..

Coyotes are a intelligent animal...don't expect overnight results unless you are on top of your game.

There is some good info posted here, go over to the game management forum and start reading in the Trapping thread...ask questions..
