    EMT Question

I've been having back pain and have been to the chiropractor the last few days and getting therapy for back spasms around my siatic nerve.

Well tonight it is horrible, I was walking and something happened and I just buckled and hit the floor, I finally (in tears) got to the bed. I can't move and for sure can't get out of bed. I don't know what to do short of calling an ambulance. My question is would they give me a muscle relaxer or pain meds before attempting to move me? Sorry for rambling but on a scale of 1-10 I'm at about a 13.

If your in that much pain I think that you should call them.
It's only going to get worse if you don't take care of it now. And it'll take a while to get a specialist / Dr visit set up.
I'm am 2 1/2 weeks post op right no and don't know why I waited so long to get it done. My L5S1 was herniated/ruptured and could not feel or have any strength in my right leg cause it was pinching off my sciatic nerve.
Best advice is don't wait, get it checked out

I'm probably going to. If the dang spasm would just release I would be good to go. I would pay some darn good money for a handfull of muscle relaxers right now.

After I get through this ordeal I'm definitely goin to drop some weight and try to improve core strength. I wouldn't even wish this much pain on my ex wife.

I caught a line drive with my face in high school and I would do it 10 more times if it would make this go away.

Could be anything, or kidneys. Either way if you're in that much pain or discomfort I would definitely seek medical help.

Back pain is no joke! Get to the ER and get some relief. Setup a follow up appointment with a neurologist and get it taken care of. Lots of options depending on your injury.

To answer your question, it all depends on the local protocols that your ems provider runs under. Most reserve pain medication for long bone fractures and stuff of that nature. It masks the problems and doctors tend to have w hard time properly diagnosing the issue. With that being said we have ways to move people that minimize the discomfort and get you on your way to help. Hope you get it all worked out

back pain isnt going to get you pain meds from ye old bambalance. They will however give you a ride to the ER. Which might be exactly what you need if youre in that much pain. Dont feel bad about it either, ive transported people for a whole lot less

Our protocols are liberal and geared towards Pain management and gives the medic the authority to make the choice of giving Fentanyl or Stadol if he or she see's fit, With that said as fireman0684 stated every system is different,I myself can't to see a grown man in enough pain to bring tears and i usually will give something to ease the pain.

Have been on both sides of the fence call if you haven't already. Later you will wonder why you waited. I, Mr.Tough Guy went by ambulance across a parking to the ER once.Honestly from the Medic side the only thing that ever rubbed me a little was when the pain hit at 2pm and you call at 3am!

                    Good Luck!

I made through the night. Took 3 hours of trying before I was finally able to get out of bed.

Made it to the doc in Big Spring, 2 injections and prescriptions for Norco and Robaxin. The injections didn't seen to do much but the pills are supposed to be the ticket according to him. We will see.
