    I don't understand arrow length...

    I shoot a 28 1/2 inch arrow, 29 inch draw, 65 lb bow.

Do I have to shoot the 28.5 arrow or can I shoot a 30 inch arrow? I assume if I shoot 2 different lengths, that the POI will be a little different. Is it that big of a deal? Why am I supposed to shoot the shortest arrow possible?

    Thanks!

You can definitely shoot a longer arrow. It may change the dynamic spine of your arrow a bit, but you can test that and adjust accordingly.

People try to shoot the shortest arrow possible because that makes for the lightest arrow which makes for the fastest arrow. I'm in the camp that doesn't believe in speed...i like a heavier arrow.

shoot whatever you want and set your sights for that arrow.

        The Whistle v The Thwack

Shorter is faster, that is why they made overdraws.
Longer is heavier but raises your KE up, and also keeps those nasty razors out in front of your hand. I am the longer variety myself...

Thank yall very much. Last year, I just went with what the bow tech suggested. This year I'm starting to ask questions and trying to understand.

I shoot a 27" FMJ w/ a 28" draw length. Shorter, but heavier. The biggest reason I shortened my arrow is to stiffen my arrow to allow me to go from 55-69lbs draw weight with the same arrow and 100gr point. If I shoot a 28" arrow, I max out at 65lbs draw weight with a 400 spine. I am a "numbers guy" and this gives me more wiggle room in my draw weight range.

              I'm a 29" draw and I cut my arrows 30.5"

I don't like my broad head inside the riser.

Two things that you might find interesting are Kinetic Energy vs. Momentum and Static Spine vs. Dynamic Spine

If you get an understanding on those two things, you can tinker to your heart's content and configure exactly what makes you happy.
