    Quick Sticks or Climbing Stick

Going to buy some sticks, and I am looking for some input. Do you prefer quick stick style or climbing sticks? Why?

Quick sticks...smaller sections that you can spread apart, place on different parts of the tree to climb irregular trees, etc.

Climbing stick...multiple sections that fit together and provide one straight climbing stick/ladder.

I use both for different needs. I prefer the quick sticks if I can find a way to use them. They are awesome for trees that aren't straight up or if you are wanting to set up in a tree that is made up of more than one main trunk.

Standard climbing sticks serve their purpose well but aren't as flexible. Some are better than others, too. I like the ones with steps that angle slightly upward, and I also like the ones that have a left and right step at each interval...not the alternating step kind, if that makes sense. The tree doesn't have to be perfectly straight for them to work, but it's safer with a straight tree.

The winner for me is a set of quick sticks. They can go on any shape of tree, straight or not. They pack up easier most of the time. Their flexibility wins.

I bought a couple of 16 foot ladder stands last year on close out for 59.00, they work great for a ladder to get to your lock on if you have the right tree.

I prefer the stacking sticks but the quick steps have their place as stated above. Had some quick steps slip and that will scare you !! If can use quick steps I just use my drill and screw in steps, of course not allowed on public. Also, once I put in screw in steps I've left them in for years of hunting the same tree. We take a regular ladder with us pre season to set up all the stacking sticks, tree steps, stands, etc....and with the stacking sticks we use ratchet straps to snug it to the tree in addition to the straps/ropes that come with them and makes them rock solid.

Public land and roaming I use the "quick sticks"

Here at the house I use the kind that all fit together and strap to the tree

I use a 16 ft aluminum ladder extension ladder. I use ratchet straps to secure. I just feel safer claiming in dark with something nice and sturdy.

Ameristep rapid rails for me too.

Edit: which ever you choose, be SURE to wear your climbing strap on your harness when traversing your step.....up or down!!!!!

                        Check these out

Climbing sticks are the way to go, like mentioned above you can put them on trees that may not be 100% straight.
