Anyone have any experience with David Champagne custom homes out of New Braunfels? After receiving bids back on building our home in Spring Branch we like him the best. Meet with him today and seems like a great guy. Looked at a couple of his homes and while he is not the cheapest I feel like we will get a better home for our money. He was referred to us by our realtor (realtor is not making any money off of us using him). And of course we will be calling some people on his reference list, but would love to hear if any one on here has any experience with him good or bad.

He used to be down here in my area and he built some nice homes. He built my buddys house before he went to your neck of the woods. He used to build quite a few custom homes and sell them. He was a nice feller as well. -

My only question would be why he moved. If his work is so good, he should have had people lined up to build wherever he came from. I'm not suggesting anything, I'm just saying you might check him out wherever it is that he came from. I happen to have had a lot of dealings with unscrupulous "custom home" builders in my line of work, and unfortunately the law makes it way too easy to screw people over under one entity, then just move to a new town, form a new entity and start screwing people over there, too.Comment

If you like i can look into getting some recommendations from Realtor colleagues up in New Braunfels.
But also, im curious as to why/how your Realtor isnt making anything off this? He's either rich and doesnt need the money, or he doesnt care. Theres nothing unethical about him getting a cut anyway, not sure why there wouldnt be an incentive for him if he's taking a buyer to the builder.
I say this because home builders offer THE BEST incentives to realtors. Not only do most offer a commission, but a bonus on top of that. Heck some even offer a scaled commission to realtors. Ex: 3.5% for 1st referral, 4% for second, & 4.5%-5% for 3rd referral. Thats big money!Comment
