Work question about comission

If you quit a job that pays comission can they keep that comission when you quit?

Pretty sure no. Working automotive for many(including me) is 100% commission and there would be hell to pay if an employer tried to keep a full paycheck when a guy left. Even gander sent me a couple commission only checks after I quit
