Speaking of geese; I have a giant open field sparsely populated with scrub oaks near a really, really big lake. Does that work in my benefit, or are my chances of attracting geese that close to a big body of water slim?

Those could be non-migrating Canadas. We have around 150 in NE Fannin county that never leave for very long.
