    Thanks for the support.
I knew I couldn't be the only one who thought that way.

Never applied for any O/G job.
Long ago, I made the decision that family time and a steady paycheck were more important to me. Same reason I never applied for any type of sales commission type job.
I'd rather have a mediocre steady paycheck than a huge paycheck this month and uncertainty next month.
I make no judgement about anyone who works any type of job. These types are simply not for me.

As far as the guys with the toys, of course there's a little jealousy. I think anyone would say the same if they're truly being honest. It's human nature to be at least a little jealous of someone with more.
The problem I have is now some, NOT ALL, of these guys with toys expect others to feel sorry for them because they are now unemployed and have no way to make the payments on those toys because they failed to save a dime when the going was good.
Saving money instead of blowing and going just happens to be the exact reason that this thread was started in the first place.

That's pretty rare though for most crafts. I/E it's gonna depend on what company you go with in the OF. Like I said tho it's a great craft to be in. You can make good money in a lot of areas. Traditionally similar crafts are gonna make a lot more in OF tho.

Poor ol BT28 just has this fetish for me. He can't seem to help it. He follows me around like a stray dog that I fed.

You're making better sense now. I don't expect you to feel sorry for anyone. Not everyone blows that money. I know some that do and I try to warn em against it. The only thing I can somewhat pick apart in this post is what you said about family being more important. I couldn't agree more. But don't think our family is less important to us. A lot of us like I said it's just what we were brought up in. I don't believe you ment that in a bad way.

It would have ended up being an hourly cut, with a little bit more in the end due to the OT. But not enough to justify working and living on the road. Got a baby coming now, so it's definitely out of the question. My little brother works in the oilfield, not sure exactly what he does, be he's mopping up. He's single and living it up.

Our main machinist (who is in his late 60's & used to work at said iron works) told me: "You wouldn't retire either if you had to stay home with some of those wives...why do you think I'm still working??" He's just being a wise guy but really can't say. I can understand not wanting to retire, but taking three months easy money when times are tough is asinine imo & it shows with some of the fallout feedback.
I hear that quite a bit. Grown arse men afraid to be at the house with the ole gals full time.

I agree with you after this post and end this "disagreement" on a good note.

And no I didn't mean to imply that oil families are any less important or meaningful than mine.
It takes a strong man, a strong wife, and a strong family overall to endure the separation that is required for oil field work.
Many marriages do not survive it.
I simply chose not to test mine.

I hold no ill will toward those who choose that life.

As I said, I only have a problem with those that blew their money and now want everyone else to feel sorry for their situation.
I realize this does NOT describe the majority of oil workers and did not mean to imply that it did.

Just out of curiosity , how.long could you make it if you were laid off tomorow?

What if you lost you job because of political policies and foreign countries swaying the president?

what is a reasonable percentage of your pay that you should spend, in the world according to denowt?

how much of a pay change is considered "chasing money" if a person leaves one field for another?

Just for the record, I feel sorry for anyone who loses their job because of a failing industry.

I wasnt trying to start an argument, just a shot in the dark that's all. I realize there are higher paying jobs out here that are not O&G. I left a good paying field to come out here bc I had become tired of doing it everyday. My pay didn't change much and I work about the same I think. Luckily I am still out here and I really enjoy what I do now.

So, where's the collapse in the Texas economy so many were predicting back in January and February?

Hey Einstein......why don't you fill us in about the state of the Texas economy.....lay out some facts about the unemployment levels, GDP, etc......for once bring some facts to the table rather than showing what a DA you appear to be.....if someone was wrong....lay it out......then if you said it was not going to happen and you were right we can all wonder at your insight.

Furthermore.....get out of your Grandmothers basement and go to any number of small towns in Texas and see how it has dried up....I don't mean only for those evil money wasting oilfield trash guys that so many despise.....I mean for everyone.....rising tide lifts all boats and like it or not the Oil patch is big in Texas......

Now rush off and google everything you can in a meager attempt to prove your point.

...and the jack wagon has returned. Jmalin, you are a twit of a person to make such a comment on this particular thread & I personally hope tbh casts you away like a soggy shrimp from a hook that has lost hope of even a hard-head or piggy perch. You are simply trollish beyond measure under the circumstances here.

I'm not even going to go back and quote the simple posts you CLEARLY disregarded of my friends here on this thread being impacted. I thought even you would have some sort of compassion of their situation, but now I have to point out ONE municipal collapse being felt in the city of Alice, TX...come on down & tell us FTF how little the impact has affected a city where back in Feb I could not find a place to eat at noon without having the boss jump our arse for being late getting back in time due to crowds.

You take that & multiply it towards all facets of business to hotels, doctors, grocery stores, foreclosures on homes, families having to relocate...should I go on??

You are freak'n clueless and mostly insensitive to an entire mass of good people living in a city that just happen to be tied to an industry you feel deserve an unjustified suffering simply because the OG industry is volatile & you want gloat that is not a state wide catastrophic economic problem??

I really feel sorry for you...hope you can come to grips with your inner self & hopefully one day be able how to present your feelings / arguement without being such a jack leg.
