    New Taxidermy Place In DFW

I've always used Modern Taxidermy in Joshua, TX and they do excellent work however I dont think I will be going back this year. Been waiting on 2 axis hides and 8 pt WT mount going on 10 months now.

Any suggestions for DFW I live in Burleson .

I guess that poses my next question so i'm educated enough to figure out what a acceptable turn around time is.

So what is the average turn around time for : 1 - Axis Hides , 2 - WT Shoulder Mount?

I started using Ram Country in Burleson 3 years ago instead of modern and I have been very pleased with their work and time of return.

Is that time frame longer than you were quoted?

At most shops, 10 months is ahead of schedule.

If that's not fast enough for you, you should definitely look for a shop with less experience, less backlog, and typically lesser quality.

10 months isn't necessarily too long if they're really good and stay booked up......unless they promised you an earlier delivery date. If any taxi tells you that they can get a whitetail shoulder mount back to you in 3-4 months, you better take a real good look (and smell) of their prior work.

WT 8-10 months which I understand it may take longer but 10 months on the axis hide to be tanned seems a bit long to me.

I read this post twice and just can't see where he asked for people's opinions on wait time. He asked for taxidermist suggestions. Is everyone's reading comprehension skills that bad??? As to the original poster, I do not know of any good taxidermists(not lucky enough to have gotten a trophy...yet). Good luck with your search.

Try Ron Kelly out in Fate/Rockwall. He does good work.

My neighbor two doors down owns Ram taxidermy. Seems like an alright guy and a few guys I work with have used him and said he does good work but he too doesn't have a real quick turn around...haven't had an animal worth mounting but when I do I will probably give him a chance since I know where to track him down haha

I comprehend just fine. I also understand that some people can't understand how it can take a year to get a mount done when it only takes half an hour to cape it, an hour to flesh it, a week to salt it, two weeks to tan it, eight hours to mount it, two weeks for it to dry, and four hours to finish it. I mean, come on, anyone that understands simple math can see it only takes five-ish weeks to do a mount. Why does it take them a year to get it back to me?

If your reading comprehension skills were as good as you claim, you'd understand that my point was 10 months is not an unreasonable amount of time and unless he was quoted something less than that, he really doesn't have a reason to *****.

If you dig deeper into that, you'll also understand that I said most good taxidermists have at least a year backlog. If you find someone that can get a shoulder mount done in three or four months, more than likely, they are new, don't have a clientele, and more often than not do sub par work. There are exceptions, but more often than not you will find my information accurate.

                            Any other questions?

FYI For the OP I took a Ram in February (shoulder mount) and a pintail in January, and I will be getting them both back in the next week or so. For me thats a very good turn around time. I also like it being close to my house I usually swing by and throw a 100 bucks a month or so to knock down the balance. Plus I get to look at al the cool critters.
