CHL Process Update

The DPS recieved my packed on May 19th (new license, not renewal). 3 weeks later I had the PIN to check status online. About 2 weeks ago the status changed to:

Application incomplete - missing information - detailed letter has been sent.

I had not seen a letter, so I called and the lady told me there was a problem with the photo. I received the letter and original photo on Thursday.

I stopped by where I took my class and had the instructor take my picture again. The one I sent in had a bad spot on the picture over my cheek. I don't know what the timeline will be from here on out and am not happy I had an issue, but, I didn't expect the picture to get beat up in transit. I can only guess that maybe a paper clip rubbed it or something.

Just sharing what I've experienced. Hopefully my license will get here soon.

Just be patient, I know it seems to take forever. I too had some problems with my application. But you have to understand, the DPS hates this program, and will use any excuse to hold up an application. Hoping, you'll give up the idea of protecting yourself. That's why the class is 12 hours long.Which could be covered in 8 or less. This process is set up to be long, tedious, and mind numbing,with sole purpose of discouraging participation. But hang in there, your second ammendment rights are more important.

I'm in no hurry. I'll get it when I get it. Just hoping to save other, more impatient people some wait.

Thanks for the update, Casey...
I know they are really backlogged at DPS with all the new applications.
I had read something somewhere that stated that now it takes up to 180 days or longer to get one. That's more than the 45 days it took mine.

One of the cadets in my class recently applied (new license). Took almost 4 months to the day.

finally got mine.... like said above, was almost 4 months to the day. Once I got the" aproved and issued" update on the web site, it was in my hands in just a few days.

I mailed my application on June 25th, and my status stills has "packet mailed to applicant". I have called twice and have been told that they are extremley backlogged. I am expecting it around Christmas.

The state got my packet/check on the 2nd of April....got my pin# appx. 100 days later....got my plastic on 7/30/08. A friend of mine only had his packet in for less than 30 days and already has his pin....maybe they're speeding up ....who knows.

This got home from Colorado for a week. Mine came last week about 120 days from when I sent mine in.

Casey, it took them 2 months to get me my change of address one(I did it online). The state gets in no hurry for CHL's. Rynn, Mark and Brian still don't have theirs yet.

I emailed for my renewal packet and had it within 4 days. I take my renew class on August 17th and my license expires Sept 28 so it sounds like I may be without for a while.
