Hello everyone just have quick question on Aoudad. I got a free hunt for an Aoudad for my wife, I was wondering if anyone has tasted the meat and if it's good. Ranch owner tells me its really good but I'm not sure if it is. Can anyone tell me about the taste of the meat.

It's very good. They are like fallow deer and elk, though. They pee all over themselves and wallow. So, be careful if you kill a big ram not to get that rank stuff on the meat. I've never eaten a really big ram, but we've killed and eaten lots of ewes and mid sized rams. I've killed 11 with my bow and every one of them was great on the table. -
Tuthdoc thanks for input guess we will be trying some if she gets one. What would be considered a big Aoudad. Rancher told me they just got one the other day that almost had 31 inch long horns, if that is true I'm guessing that is big for an Aoudad.Comment

30 inches or better would be considered a big one. Sorta like a 20 inch Blackbuck or a 30 inch axis. Treat the meat just like you would your whitetail. I soak it in an ice chest covered with ice for 4 or 5 days, then debone and process.
A giant auodad will have 36 or better horns. 31 is plenty good.

Just started hunting last year, so only into rifle now but I'm trying to get her into bow. She has taken two really great axis deer and a nice whitetail. She keeps telling me she wants to go for a pronghorn then a Kudu. I told her we better build a big house for all her trophys and we better win the lotto.Comment
