Guess I've been dove hunting the wrong way....

Been dove hunting on a few occasions since opener and noticed the neighbors shooting A LOT more than my group. Apparently, the latest method requires two feeders, a dozen mojo around them, and a nice spot in the tree line. When I drove by and saw that it was a definite WTH moment.

Kind of thinking the same thing. I'll admit my reason for not calling a GW was selfish, not wanting to possibly let it affect my deer hunting if they were to know who called, especially if the GW sucked em up thirty minutes after I drive by them. They live on the adjoining land to mine, I live about 20 minutes away. In 15 years, never seen them do anything like that.

Who says they won't poach your deer if you don't report them? If they hunt dove illegally I'm sure they'll hunt deer illegally too

Didn't need it, just observing there would be one, and I acknowledged that my initial reason for not doing it was selfish. But thinking about it more, calling is the right choice. If they'll break that law, what others will they break?

True, that was my conclusion in my last post. Very true.

Just heard a story the other day about a friend of mines relative getting "raided" by the GW the other day. He had a group of people over and they were out back shooting dove all legal like, or so they thought. About the time they get finished and start heading up to the house a small caravan of GW's drive through his and his neighbors fences, mind you his gate was open, and proceed to bail out guns drawn. The GW's check all their licenses which they all had, they go to the neighbors pasture next door where they had done some hunting with permission from the land owner and find bits of corn in the pasture. They wrote them all $275 tickets for hunting over bait that they had no clue was there and had not thrown out themselves. I've met the relative before and he is a stand-up awesome guy and is not the kind to hunt illegally. Bad situation. Still don't know why the GW's decided to drive through their barbed wire fences and storm them like that. Obviously someone called the GW about something, but they wouldn't disclose what.

I hunted a TPWD public dove lease and it had a feeder on it. Two, now that I think of it, but one was for protein. I was curious as we walked by headed over to the tank. The feeder was empty and no corn on the ground.

As long as they are not actively feeding with that feeder and hunting over it while it holds corn and is capabile of throwing it, I think it's fine. Actually, there is a 10 day rule for how long you have to wait before all of it is gone to hunt it. I'm not sure how you actually prove that of course when it's your own property and not monitored by the state (as I'd assume is the case for public dove leases.)

The feeders were on opposite corners of the property. Didn't notice if there was any corn on the ground or not.
