    Shotgun reload question

I've got a 12g reloader but haven't used it in years because I can buy quality shells for the same or less than I can reload em'.

I've entertained the idea of buying a .410 o/u but the cost of shells, the amount I shoot could get pricey in a hurry. I have a friend I hunted with this weekend that said he had a 410 reloader he would give me. So if anyone reloads 410, can I reload em for less than $10 a box....preferably less than $6 since the amount of lead and powder is less

Sure you can if you, even if you have to buy once fired hulls.

I've had decent luck with the Rio's in 3".

Just got a text and said its a MEC and a bag of wads, brick of primers, and about 40# of shot. I'll see what brand of everything it is and try and make a recipe to use that up, and adjust from there if needed.

Had a .410 hand loader that would make good reloads. I just started by buying a couple of boxes of shells and saved all the hulls. You can still save at least 5$ a box.

Ended up getting rid of my mec 12ga as you could buy shells for the same price.

I don't have the data here with me. I use W296 powder but don't remember the charge.

Here's what it cost me to load 12's 1&1/8 OZ loads. You'd cut the price in half for lead and about 1/3 for powder. Not including hulls you should be able to load a box of 410 for just under $4. But you have to really slow it down on the loader with the 28 and 410 to make a nice round. So time in labor would probably double.

                  4 lbs 700x = 1600 rounds = 72.00/1600*25= 1.13
                  25 lbs shot = 335 rounds = 42.00/335*25= 3.13
                  1000 W209 primers = 1000 rounds = 36.00/1000*25= .90
                  500 claybuster wads = 500 rounds = 12.00/500*25= .6
Once fired AA's = Free (I was given about 5000 from an old friend)

5.76/box for a consistent match load. 57.60 and just under 2 hours of labor for a case.

You're a lucky man, thats a bunch of stuff!
You'll be able to reload for much cheaper than buying .410. You do save money reloading 12 gauge, but you don't use near the amount of shot that you do in a 12, and .410 is more expensive, so you'll save significantly more.
As stated, rio's are pretty good. We've picked up a few here and there at the range of other varitey's but I can't remember off the top of my head. If you find AA's in the right length, go for them

                    Have fun

I did 28 ga for several years and saved a lot of money but I had an 1100 auto and got tired of chasing green Remington premier hulls in green grass. That 1100 could chunk those hulls a long way. When I was doing it, the 28 ga red AAs were having some crimping issues so I had to go with the Premiers on the once fired market.

I should have bought an O/U and kept on doing it but got tired of chasing them and sold it all. I bet you would save a ton on .410s
