    Problems with Shotgun Shells

So...I've been using an 20GA Remington 1100 shotgun for bird hunting these past few years. Last year I tried using Winchester shells and had a LOT of problems with the casings getting stuck in the action. With Remington shells...no problems. Anybody else have this issue?

I have the same issue with Winchester loads in all my 20s. I believe it is the shorter brass that Winchester uses. The Federal and Remington loads use a little taller brass and they cycle just fine as fast as I can pump it or for my semi's, pull the trigger.

Some 1100 20 gauges don't like light loads and won't cycle the 7/8 oz cheapo crap. Try 1 oz Heavy Dove's or 1 oz Rio's. If that don't work clean it real good and check the o-ring. You can make them cycle light loads by shortening the recoil spring and drilling out 1 gas port a tad[1 size larger in a machinist drill bit set] if desired.

I've had issues in the past with Winchesters. Try the federals/rios/estates my wife has been shooting skeet with my 1100 not one issue.
These are all 7/8oz loads also.

I usually use the Remington Heavy Dove and they work just fine. The hubs mixed some old Winchester shells in my bird belt and I was wondering what was going on?? Both brands had yellow shells of course so it wasn't till I noticed the markings. I think maybe he was trying to sabotage my hunting.

Which Winchester shells? AA's have always worked well for me. Cheap promos are cheap for a reason.

I have an old Rem 1100 Light 20 and like several have mentioned above, I have settled on the Rem Heavy Dove with 1oz of #8. They cycle very well.

This is Hubs chiming in....I used those Winchester shells in my single shot and went 3 for 6 and might have let a few get in her bag but i do think the Winchester shells are poop. Give her some Remington shells and she is 1 for 10 easy. I'm gonna run and hide now. :-)

My Remington 870 Express runs Remington shells all day. I stick the Winchester shells from walmart in and it's jam city. I can cycle them through as long as I don't shoot them. After shooting, it sticks and I have to slam the butt on the ground to break it free. I tried polishing the chamber by wrapping a bore brush in 000 steel wool and hooking it up to a drill. Still does it.

The brass may be the issue. I almost always use high brass, but the winchester is what I've used for clays, and it's always been low brass.

Me and a buddy bought new 870's a few years ago and have the exact same problem.

I had the same issue with an 870 and the Walmart cheapo Winchesters. If we shoot Winchester, its AA only, otherwise the Rio's from Academy pattern best from my O/U and Browning Gold.

sometimes, cheap ammo will swell and cause issues.

I'm so relieved to know it's not just mine with the problems with cheap Winchester
