    Radar detectors?

Been thinking about getting another radar detector and the thread earlier got me wondering what kind or what kind y'all use? We've all been guilty of it at one point or another (some more than others) so for those that say don't speed thanks for the advise, again what kind of radar detector do you recommend?

I've had the passport 9500i for a few years, only use it on road trips when I tend to speed and has saved my butt too many times. Just did a hardware install for a coworker on his passport max2 and that seems awesome! Love the new features and tells you the speed limit as well as your actual speed side by side

That laser sure is quick as soon as you poke over that hill.

From a friend. Get caught speeding with a detector, you will get a ticket.

This is true, but the passport9500i makes it hard to get pulled over! Sucker is spot on most the time for me. I had 3 speeding tickets in 2 years, bought the radar and have not had a speeding ticket in 3 years, and yes I speed as much if not more now then I did before I had it, so it definitely is worth it.

Do it in colorado, and the trooper will have you get out of the vehicle so he can pull it down and destroy it on the pavement. Then ticket you for speeding as well as having the detector. At least, thats what happened to me some 12 years ago.

Have the 8500 pulled over on a few tickets never got one and avoided 100's by now well worth the money

I am no longer in a hurry so don't need or want one. I also have a cdl so it is illegal for me to own one.

Unless there is something keeping the officer from seeing and identifying you as the speeder, how do you expect the detector to help at all? When you pick up the radar they already have an echo on you. When I was young I used a detector. I was running about 15 mph over the then very frustrating 55 mph speed limit and was in moderate traffic. I got an alarm, slowed down quickly, then identified a highway patrolman nearly a mile ahead of me. His comment after he stopped me was that I had really set the brakes on. He wanted to know why. My detector was not visible as I had unplugged it and stuck it under the seat. My answer was that when I saw him I checked my speedometer and adjusted as I was a bit over the speed limit. I got a ticket and threw away the detector when I got home.

I find that the speed limits of today are more than high enough for me. There are too many deer that can suddenly get into the road and I don't like paying insurance deductibles or having my vehicles damaged. When you live in the country it happens every couple of years. I had over $3000 in damage to a pickup from a buck T-boning me when I was driving about 35 mph. My wife got T-boned by a buck as she was nearly stopped at a stop sign .

So ask yourself if you really need or want to exceed the speed limit.

I have the 9500i as well and it has saved me numerous times. Had two tickets in the last 2 years and both times my wife had taken and put it in her car! I have got to get her one so she will quit stealing mine! It actually paid for itself the first weekend I got it as I was on my way from Dallas to Corpus.

I am almost always the second fastest vehicle on the road. I've had one speeding ticket in 13 years of driving. Be the second fastest, not THE fastest, don't tailgate, and keep your eyes scanning as far down the road for cops as you can, and you won't get pulled over.
